Return to Earth Universe

Demagog calls the shared IP "Return to Earth" and its method Constellation Storytelling: one world, multiple self-contained entry points across games, animation and music, with games as the cornerstone.

In-fiction chronology

Position Title Vantage point
Earliest Highwater (2023 mobile / 2024 PC & console) The week of the evacuation. Humanity is still on Earth; the elite are boarding the Mars-bound "Hope mission" from Alphaville. Told from the flood zone outside the wall.
Middle The Cub (2024) Long after the exodus. A feral child left behind on a poisoned Earth; explicitly written to intersect with Golf Club: Wasteland rather than sequel it.
Latest Golf Club: Wasteland / Nostalgia (2018 mobile, 2021 consoles) Mars-dwelling rich return to a dead Earth as tourists, playing golf in the ruins, listening to Radio Nostalgia from Mars.

Release order and story order run in opposite directions: the studio's debut is chronologically last, and Highwater — its third game — is the origin story. Highwater Pirate Radio is the stated forerunner of Radio Nostalgia from Mars, which makes the radio the connective tissue of the whole constellation (Radio & Audio).

Dates are relative, not absolute

No in-fiction calendar dates were found in the sources consulted; the game's own clock is "one week until launch". The ordering above rests on studio and press statements ("prequel to Golf Club: Wasteland", "a different perspective... which intersects"), not on a dated in-game document. A Chronos Timeline codeblock has deliberately not been written here — the plugin's syntax should be verified from its own main.js first, and there is no dated material to plot yet. See Sources.

What Highwater inherited

  • The satirical register — corporate and billionaire parody (Orinoco, Mr. Bozo, Muskovitch), delivered through in-world media rather than dialogue
  • The radio-as-narrator device, transplanted from a Mars broadcast to a pirate station on the water
  • Ex-Yugoslav brutalist architecture as the visual signature — recognisable Belgrade forms and monuments, half-submerged
  • The tonal recipe: beautiful catastrophe, low affect, jokes at funeral pace

What it changed

Dimension Golf Club: Wasteland Highwater
Dimensionality 2D side-scrolling 3D world with isometric encounter scenes
Verb Hit a golf ball Sail, scavenge, tactical combat
Cast One golfer, radio voices A named party of nine, joining and leaving
Player agency over world None Two branch points
Team scale Seven people ~20 across two simultaneous titles

The escalation is deliberate — the studio described Highwater as "a big level up compared to the first title... the gameplay is much more complex."

What it hands forward

Simić has said the studio plans "a new turn-based game that includes more RPG elements with an evolution of characters over time" — i.e. the missing progression spine identified in Equipment & Boosters is a known gap, not an oversight, and the intended fix is a future title rather than a patch.
